Anger

James 4:10  -  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. 

Psalm 73:25-26  -  Whom have I in heaven but you? And being with you, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. 

Ezekiel 36:26  -  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you

Robert's take: To me, this means that no matter what challenges or struggles you’re facing, you should place your faith in the Lord and allow him to guide you. Surrender the good, the bad, and all the changes in your life into his hands, trusting that he will provide the direction and strength you need. Even in your darkest moments—when you feel lost or alone—the light of the Lord still shines, ready to lead you out of the darkness and into peace.

Alex's take:  -  What it means to me is that if you are to trust in God he will bring you to things and no matter how bad something may seem he will guide you through it. This also goes for the good things. If they are presented to you by God, give the thanks to him and share that it is because of his grace that good happens to you as well. Place your faith in him and he will always take care of you.  

Rudy's take:  -  To me this verse means that only with God all things are possible and when you are in the most strife in life the only way out is through giving your full faith in God. When you realize that relying solely on yourself and your thoughts will lead you on a winding path and the sooner we realize that giving all your grace in wins and fears in times of trouble or fear is the only way to truly feel and see God's work in your life.  

Comfort

Isaiah 51:12  -  I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass

Isaiah 57:18  -  I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners 

Isaiah 66:13   -  As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted in Jerusalem 

Jeremiah 31:13   -  Then young women will dance and be glad. And so will the men, young and old alike. I will turn their sobbing into gladness. I will comfort them. And I will give them joy instead of sorrow.

Courtship

Proverbs 18:22  -  He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

Crisis

Psalm 34:17-20  -  When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Philippians 4:19  -  And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus  

Enemies

Exodus 23:22   -   If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you 

2 Kings 6:16   -  Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them 

2 Kings 17:39   -  Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies 

Job 8:22   -  Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more.

Proverbs 16:7   -  When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them 

Isaiah 54:15-17   -  If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you. “See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. Isaiah 41:11-12   -  All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. 

Luke 1:71  -  salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us 

Acts 18:10   -   For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city 

Hebrews 13:6   -  So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

Forgiveness 

Mark 11:25  -  and whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you for your trespasses

Robert's take:   -   To me this means that every day you need to forgive anyone and everybody that you may be upset with, angry with or hurt by.  You don't need to hold on to any feelings other than love towards people.

Alex's take:  -   My take is that it means that you not only pray for forgiveness and forgive but you also pray for the ones who wronged you. In the end God will be the one to make it right, not you or the other person. It is your job to forgive however hard it might be, but put your faith in God and he will heal and make it right.  

Rudy's take:  -    Basically I was taught as a young child (growing up in Bible study) that when we pray, we need to be in fellowship and confessing our sins and asking forgiveness is how we got there. 

Humility

Psalm 75:6-7   -   No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves. It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another 

Luke 14:11   -  For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted 

James 4:6-10   -  But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

1 Peter 5:6   -  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time 

Living in the Present

Psalm 46:1   -   God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 

Matthew 6:34   -   Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own 

Philippians 3:13-14  -   Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,  I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 

Love

Matthew 5:44   -   But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you 

Matthew 7:12   -   So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets 

Mark 12:30-31   -   Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these. 

John 15:12-13   -   My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends 

Romans 12:10   -   Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 

Romans 13:10   -   Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. 

1 Corinthians 13:4-8    -   Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away

1 Peter 1:2    -   who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance

1 John 2:10   -   Anyone who loves their brother and sister[a] lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble 

New Beginning's 

2 Corinthians 5:17    -    Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new

Robert's take:   -   To me this means that any person who is true with God and accepts him into their life, you are reborn, forgiven for your sins and the old you is gone. going forward everything is seen different, you start a new version of your life and yourself with God.

Alex's take:  -  What this means to me is that if you accept Jesus as your savior then you will be renewed, passed sins forgotten and your personal relationship with him will make you a new person. This is where I think the phrase born again comes from. because you are born again and will join Gods Kingdom. 

Rudy's take:  -    My thought on this weeks verse is basically when you accept Christ as your personal savior, your sins are washed away and you are “reborn” in his light.

Jeremiah 29:11   -   For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Overcoming Bad Habits

Proverbs 28:13   -   Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. 

Matthew 3:8   -   Produce fruit in keeping with repentance 

Romans 6:11-19  -   In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Romans 13:14   -   Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. 

1 Corinthians 9:27   -   No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 

Philippians 4:13   -   I can do all this through him who gives me strength 

1 Peter 4:1-3   -   Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. 2 Chronicles 7:14  -   if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 

Psalm 145:18   -   The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 

Jeremiah 33:3   -   Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. 

Matthew 7:7-8   -   Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 

Mark 11:24-25    -   Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins
