About This Episode

Project Serpo.

The story claims that following the Roswell crash, the United States eventually became involved in a secret exchange program with extraterrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli star system.

And this supposedly wasn't just exchanging technology.

According to the story, a team of humans actually left Earth aboard an extraterrestrial spacecraft and traveled to another planet, where they were expected to live for years before returning home.

The guys break down the alleged program, the supposed journey to Serpo, the environment the team encountered, deaths among the crew, cloning, alien technology, cattle mutilations, government whistleblowers, and claims that thousands of photographs, videos, and pages of mission logs once existed.

But they also start poking holes in the story.

If an alien civilization can travel dozens of light-years across space, why can't they figure out how to feed humans properly?

If we've had access to technology capable of reaching another star system for decades, where is it?

And if governments really are hiding evidence of extraterrestrial life, is it because humanity couldn't handle the truth—or because knowing we're not alone might actually bring people together?

Episode 41 also brings the usual chaos with Rebel Report, Folks on Fire, Boners, Sacked, Today in History, baseball, thumb jokes, and a more personal conversation as the guys remember Gus after having to say goodbye to him.

Fringe Files: Project Serpo

What if Roswell wasn't the end of the story?

What if it was the beginning?

Project Serpo is the name given to an alleged secret program involving the United States government and an extraterrestrial civilization associated with the Zeta Reticuli star system.

According to the story discussed in Episode 41, extraterrestrials were recovered following the Roswell incident.

Eventually, communication supposedly developed between the two civilizations.

And that led to an unbelievable agreement:

An exchange program.

Extraterrestrials would remain connected with Earth...

And humans would travel to their world.

The Human-Alien Exchange Program

According to the version of the story discussed during the episode, roughly a dozen humans were selected for the mission.

Their destination was a planet associated with the Zeta Reticuli system, nearly 40 light-years from Earth.

But they supposedly didn't travel there using human technology.

The team allegedly boarded a smaller craft before transferring onto a much more advanced extraterrestrial spacecraft.

Then they left Earth.

The craziest part?

The alleged journey took only around nine and a half months.

With our understanding of physics, traveling nearly 40 light-years in less than a year raises an obvious question:

How?

Wormholes?

Space-time manipulation?

Technology completely beyond our understanding?

Or is that one of the biggest clues that the entire story is science fiction?

Life on Serpo

According to the story, Serpo wasn't exactly paradise.

The planet was described as having an environment resembling the deserts of Arizona, with intense sunlight and multiple suns visible in the sky.

The humans reportedly needed special eyewear because of the brightness.

There were also major problems with food.

According to the account discussed during the show, the humans couldn't properly process some of the available protein sources.

That becomes one of the biggest problems the guys have with the entire story.

An extraterrestrial civilization can apparently:

Travel between star systems.

Build advanced spacecraft.

Communicate across enormous distances.

Possibly manipulate space and time.

But nobody packed enough protein?

That's where Project Serpo starts sounding less like a classified government program...

And more like somebody writing science fiction.

Deaths, Cloning & Missing Crew Members

The alleged mission becomes even stranger when members of the human team begin dying.

One reportedly dies during the journey.

Others allegedly die while living on Serpo.

Only a small number supposedly survive the entire mission.

Then comes one of the weirdest claims:

Cloning.

According to the story discussed by the guys, the extraterrestrials supposedly wanted to retain the body of one deceased crew member and were allegedly involved in cloning experiments.

That leads the conversation into alien abduction stories, human experimentation, cattle mutilations, biological research, and the possibility that some reported encounters could be connected to extraterrestrials trying to understand human biology.

Again:

Interesting story.

Absolutely wild claims.

Very little that can actually be proven.

Where's the Evidence?

One reason Project Serpo refuses to completely disappear from UFO culture is the amount of evidence that supposedly existed.

The guys discuss claims involving:

Thousands of photographs

Video footage

Mission reports

Approximately 1,800 pages of logs

Testimony from alleged insiders

UFO conference appearances

Interviews discussing the program

People claiming direct knowledge of the operation

The problem?

Where is all of it?

That's where the Project Serpo story gets difficult.

There are enough details to make the story fascinating.

But the extraordinary evidence necessary to prove those extraordinary claims hasn't publicly appeared.

Richard Doty & UFO Disinformation

Another problem surrounding Serpo is the people connected to the story.

The guys discuss Richard Doty, a former Air Force Office of Special Investigations agent whose name has become closely associated with UFO stories and government disinformation.

And that creates an interesting problem.

If someone previously participated in disinformation campaigns...

How do you know when they're finally telling the truth?

Maybe they're revealing something real.

Maybe they're continuing the disinformation.

Or maybe the truth and misinformation are intentionally mixed together so thoroughly that nobody can tell the difference anymore.

That possibility becomes almost as interesting as the Serpo story itself.

Did We Get Their Technology?

Then comes one of the biggest questions of the episode.

If Project Serpo happened...

What did we get in return?

The guys discuss claims that extraterrestrial technology may have been shared with the United States, including technology allowing communication across enormous astronomical distances.

That leads into another familiar Fringe Files rabbit hole:

Secret spacecraft.

Black-budget programs.

Advanced propulsion.

NASA.

Space Force.

And rumors that humanity may already possess technology far beyond anything publicly acknowledged.

Because if humans really traveled nearly 40 light-years decades ago...

Our publicly known space program would represent only a tiny fraction of what we're actually capable of doing.

Aliens, Religion & Disclosure

One of the more interesting conversations in Episode 41 isn't really about aliens.

It's about us.

A common argument surrounding UFO secrecy is that governments couldn't reveal extraterrestrial life because it would cause panic, destroy religions, and completely destabilize society.

The guys aren't convinced.

They argue that people with strong faith wouldn't necessarily abandon God simply because life exists somewhere else.

It would certainly create questions.

But questions don't automatically destroy faith.

They also consider another possibility:

What if disclosure actually united humanity?

If people discovered that intelligent civilizations existed beyond Earth—and humanity already had the technology to travel among the stars—national differences might suddenly seem much smaller.

Instead of fighting over everything down here, maybe people would start asking what we could accomplish together out there.

Rebel Report

After spending plenty of time on another planet, Episode 41 comes back to Earth.

And apparently Earth is still plenty weird.

The Rebel Report covers stories involving a mysterious U.S. military aircraft reportedly appearing in Russia, a bizarre prostitution-related sports story, controversy surrounding a children's Halloween costume, and Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson leaning into the long-running speculation that they might actually be brothers.

The conversation also turns toward the ever-growing number of streaming services and how cutting the cord somehow turned into paying for a dozen different subscriptions instead.

Because apparently cable television just evolved.

Baseball, Fake News & Big Dumper

Baseball naturally finds its way into the episode.

The guys talk Braves, Dodgers, Phillies, playoff positioning, and the approaching postseason.

Then a claim comes up that Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh—Big Dumper—had been suspended for steroids.

There's just one problem.

It wasn't true.

The claim gets checked during the show and immediately gets thrown out.

Fake news. Strike it from the record.

A perfect reminder that sometimes the correction is just as important as the story.

Remembering Gus

Episode 41 also includes one of the more personal moments of the show.

The guys talk about having to say goodbye to Gus after putting him down the previous week.

They remember the dog that would sit outside the studio waiting for the door to open so he could come inside and wreck everything.

They also talk about how strange the house feels afterward.

Quieter.

Emptier.

And missing the chaos you probably complained about while it was happening.

Rob also finds a small 3D-printed dog and paints it to look like Gus, giving the studio its own little Gus memorial.

It's a small gesture.

But sometimes the small things are the ones that mean the most.

Folks on Fire

Folks on Fire takes a more heartfelt turn this week.

The guys recognize the people who helped make Gus's final moments as peaceful as possible, including an in-home veterinary service that allowed him to stay somewhere familiar instead of spending his final moments stressed inside a veterinary office.

They also recognize the friends who were there when it mattered.

Then things become significantly less emotional when Dale arrives.

Dale apparently has absolutely no problem walking to his mailbox in a Speedo.

Every day.

Reading his coupons.

Checking the mail.

Living his best life.

The conclusion?

Confidence isn't illegal.

Good job, Dale.

Boners

This week's Boners begin close to home.

Rob earns a spot after losing his battle with a circular saw and injuring his thumb badly enough to land himself in the emergency room.

Naturally, the guys respond with compassion.

By making thumb jokes for the rest of the show.

The WNBA also becomes part of the segment as the guys react to a story they discuss involving retired NBA players supposedly declaring themselves eligible for the WNBA draft and the broader debate surrounding eligibility rules in women's sports.

Sacked

Sacked brings the pain.

One clip features an unfortunate combination that turns into an accidental uppercut-and-jab worthy of its own martial-arts highlight reel.

Another comes from the world of tuner car meets.

Someone attempts something stupid.

Gravity responds.

And the result becomes what the guys appropriately name:

The Old Ball Stall.

Sometimes Sacked doesn't need a deeper lesson.

Don't do dumb shit.

Today in History

Episode 41 closes by looking backward.

The guys hit several moments from history, including:

The liberation of Paris during World War II

Sean Connery

The Great Moon Hoax

Early newspaper stories claiming life had been discovered on the Moon

And another historical reminder that unbelievable stories didn't begin with the internet

The Great Moon Hoax fits especially well with the rest of Episode 41.

Nearly two centuries before social media, UFO whistleblowers, leaked government documents, and Project Serpo...

People were already trying to figure out whether incredible stories about life beyond Earth were fact or fiction.

Some things apparently never change.

Key Takeaways

Project Serpo is one of the wildest stories in UFO lore. An alleged government exchange program involving humans traveling to another planet sounds like science fiction, but the amount of detail surrounding the story has kept it alive for years.

Details aren't the same thing as evidence. Stories about photographs, videos, mission logs, whistleblowers, and secret programs are fascinating, but claims this extraordinary require much stronger evidence.

It's worth questioning both belief and disbelief. Automatically accepting every UFO story isn't useful—but automatically dismissing every strange claim can shut down interesting questions too.

Disinformation makes finding the truth harder. When people connected to a story also have histories involving misinformation, separating fact from fiction becomes incredibly difficult.

Extraterrestrial life wouldn't necessarily destroy faith. Discovering life elsewhere in the universe could create new theological questions without automatically eliminating belief in God.

Disclosure could potentially bring people together instead of tearing them apart. Knowing humanity isn't alone might change how we look at many of the divisions we consider important today.

Check the story before believing the headline. The Big Dumper steroid discussion becomes a perfect example when the claim is checked during the show and turns out to be false.

Sometimes friendship looks like making jokes when your buddy gets hurt. Rob's thumb survives. His dignity does not.

Losing a dog leaves a bigger hole than people sometimes realize. Remembering Gus becomes a reminder to appreciate the animals—and people—who bring chaos into our lives while they're still here.
