God's Timing, Raising Kids & Building a Foundation of Faith
Episode 5 of Wolves & Wisemen Reignited gets into something almost everyone struggles with at some point: waiting.
Wolves & Wisemen Reignited — Episode 5
About This Episode
We pray for answers. We pray for opportunities. We pray for things to change. Then comes the difficult part—waiting for God's timing while trying to figure out what we're supposed to be doing in the meantime.
The guys talk honestly about patience, impatience, procrastination, forcing things before they're ready, and learning that trusting God's timing doesn't mean sitting around doing nothing.
Sometimes you have to wait.
Sometimes you have to work.
Sometimes you have to recognize the opportunity God has already put directly in front of you.
And sometimes you have to let something go before you can move forward.
The conversation turns into a bigger discussion about the difference between our wants and our needs. The things we pray for don't always arrive the way we pictured them, and sometimes what we think we want isn't actually what we need.
The guys also connect those lessons to experiences from the Marine Corps, including learning to get through difficult situations five minutes—or even one step—at a time. Instead of becoming overwhelmed by the mountain in front of you, sometimes the only thing you need to concentrate on is taking the next step.
That idea leads directly into the second major Check In topic: family.
As fathers, the guys talk about the responsibility of building a foundation for their children—not just teaching them how to survive in the world, but giving them a foundation of faith, values, discipline, responsibility, and a relationship with God that they can return to throughout their lives.
They also get honest about something every parent eventually realizes:
Nobody really knows exactly what they're doing.
Every kid is different. Every situation is different. Parenting requires discipline, patience, boundaries, humor, love, and plenty of figuring things out along the way.
The goal isn't necessarily to raise children who never question anything or never stray from what they were taught. It's to give them a strong enough foundation that when they eventually have to make their own decisions, they have something solid to come back to.
And in true Wolves & Wisemen fashion, all of this somehow happens between conversations about mushroom coffee, Friendsgiving, Marine Corps stories, questionable purchases, parenting failures, Ford trucks, and plenty of things that probably shouldn't be used as examples in Sunday school.

Scripture From This Episode
Psalm 27:13–14
The first Check In centers around waiting on God, having courage, and trusting that His timing may be different from our own.
The guys connect this passage with patience and the struggle of wanting answers immediately.
Waiting doesn't necessarily mean doing nothing. You can trust God's timing while still taking the steps in front of you.
Proverbs 3:5–6
This passage reinforces one of the biggest ideas in the episode:
We don't always understand where things are going.
Sometimes what looks like a delay, failure, missed opportunity, or closed door eventually leads somewhere better.
The challenge is trusting God without believing we have to understand the entire plan before taking the next step.
Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
This becomes the foundation for the second major conversation of the episode.
The guys discuss what it actually means to build that foundation for your children—and whether teaching them about God means they'll never question their faith or find their own path.
Their conclusion is less about controlling every decision their children make and more about giving them something solid to return to throughout their lives.
Note: During the episode, this verse is introduced as Colossians 3:20, but the verse being quoted is Proverbs 22:6.
Key Takeaways
Waiting on God doesn't mean doing nothing. Trusting God's timing still requires us to take action, put in the work, and move toward the opportunities in front of us.
God's timing and our timing aren't always the same. Trying to force something simply because we want it now can sometimes create problems that patience would have prevented.
Your wants and your needs aren't always the same thing. What we pray for may not arrive in the form we expected because what we actually need may be different from what we thought we wanted.
Prayer isn't a Christmas list. Faith isn't about asking God for everything we want and walking away when those things don't immediately happen.
Sometimes the answer comes through the challenge itself. Praying for patience doesn't necessarily mean suddenly becoming patient. Life may give you opportunities to actually develop patience.
You still have to pick up the shovel. Faith and effort work together. You can't pray for something to change while refusing to take the steps necessary to move forward.
Pay attention to what's already in front of you. Sometimes we're waiting for a giant sign while ignoring the opportunities, people, or circumstances already pointing us toward the next step.
Sometimes moving forward requires letting something go. Holding onto the wrong thing can make it harder to recognize the opportunity God is putting in front of you.
Take the mountain one step at a time. You don't always need to know how you're going to make it all the way to the top. Sometimes you just need to take the next step.
Five minutes can change your perspective. When life feels overwhelming, shrinking the problem down to the next five minutes—or even the next 30 seconds—can make something difficult feel possible.
Reaching one mountaintop doesn't mean there isn't another mountain. Life continues to bring challenges. Getting through one difficult season prepares you for the next one.
Parents are building a foundation, not controlling an entire life. Eventually children will make their own decisions. The goal is to give them faith, values, discipline, and guidance they can return to.
Teaching your children doesn't stop when they turn 18. Parents continue learning from their own parents throughout adulthood, and they can continue guiding their children as they grow.
Every child is different. Discipline, communication, and parenting can't always be handled exactly the same way with every kid.
Being your child's parent sometimes has to come before being their friend. Kids need love and a relationship with their parents, but they also need boundaries, discipline, expectations, and consequences.
Let your kids develop their own personalities. Raising respectful children doesn't mean removing their humor, emotions, opinions, or individuality.
Your kids are going to see you make mistakes. Parenting isn't about pretending to have everything figured out. It's about continuing to learn, teach, correct, and build the foundation.
Family and faith matter more than material things. Money can make life easier, but it doesn't automatically create meaning, strong relationships, or happiness.
Your children may eventually question what you taught them—and the foundation still matters. They may have to find their own way, but giving them something solid early in life gives them somewhere to return when they're ready.

New episodes. New conversations. Faith, life, current events, the unexplained, and plenty of chaos along the way.
Wolves & Wisemen Reignited isn't about pretending we have everything figured out. We're three imperfect guys trying to strengthen our faith while still talking like ourselves about family, life, current events, strange stories, our mistakes, and the things people don't always want to talk about.
And starting with Episode 5, The Check In is becoming even more connected to the Wolves & Wisemen community.
The guys are inviting viewers to submit topics they're dealing with in their own lives along with a Bible verse they believe connects with that subject. Those ideas may become future Check In conversations.
