Following God's Path When You Don't Know Where It Leads
Episode 42 of Wolves & Wisemen Reignited asks a question almost everyone who has struggled with faith has probably faced:
Wolves & Wisemen Reignited — Episode 42
About This Episode
How do you know when God is trying to tell you something?
During The Check In, the guys talk about recognizing God's voice, trusting His direction when it isn't the direction you expected, walking through doors that scare you, and recognizing when a closed door might actually be God's protection.
Sometimes we pray for direction while secretly hoping God gives us the answer we already want.
But what happens when He doesn't?
The conversation gets personal as the guys share moments when they ignored signs, fought to keep doors open that probably needed to close, stepped into situations without knowing where they would lead, and eventually realized that faith isn't about seeing the entire road ahead.
It's about trusting God enough to take the next step.
The conversation gets even better when Amber from The Amber May Show unexpectedly joins the episode and shares how following God's direction changed the path of her own life and brought her back into broadcasting.
Then Episode 42 heads into Rebel Report, Folks on Fire, current events, space, questionable headlines, Today in History, the top songs of 1996, plenty of thumb jokes, and enough conversation that Fringe Files never actually happens.
Sometimes the show has a plan.
Sometimes God apparently has a different one.

The Check In: Following God's Path
The Check In begins with Proverbs 3:5–6 and the idea of trusting God instead of relying entirely on our own understanding.
That leads to the first big question:
Have you ever ignored God's direction because it wasn't what you wanted?
It's easy to ask God for guidance.
It's much harder when the guidance takes you somewhere uncomfortable.
Sometimes the answer means changing careers.
Ending a relationship.
Walking away from something familiar.
Starting something new.
Or admitting that the plan you've been forcing simply isn't working.
The guys discuss how fear can make us ignore those moments—even when part of us already knows which direction we're supposed to go.
Recognizing God's Voice
One of the hardest parts of following God is figuring out whether what you're experiencing actually is God's direction.
Does God speak through Scripture?
Prayer?
Other people?
Circumstances?
Major events?
Quiet moments?
The guys discuss how staying connected through prayer, Scripture, and fellowship can make God's direction easier to recognize.
The idea isn't that God always sends a giant flashing sign.
Sometimes the message is subtle.
Although, as the guys repeatedly point out...
Sometimes they apparently need God to write the answer in crayon and smack them in the face with it.
Faith in a Distracted World
The conversation also turns toward something almost everyone deals with:
Our phones.
Social media can constantly feed us anger, fear, outrage, conspiracies, bad news, arguments, and negativity.
Before long, that darkness starts affecting how you think.
Rob talks about changing his phone so Bible verses, prayers, and faith-based messages appear on his lock screen throughout the day.
Instead of immediately opening his phone and entering the noise, he's reminded of God first.
It's a small change.
But sometimes small changes redirect your entire mindset.
When God Opens a Door
Sometimes the opportunity you've prayed for doesn't look anything like what you imagined.
Maybe the door appears through a person.
A job.
A conversation.
An unexpected invitation.
Or something completely outside your comfort zone.
The guys discuss how God's open doors often require faith before we feel ready to walk through them.
You might not know where the door leads.
You might not feel qualified.
You might not feel prepared.
But faith doesn't always mean knowing where you're going.
Sometimes faith simply means taking the next step.
When God Closes a Door
Open doors aren't the only signs.
Sometimes the bigger message is the door that keeps closing.
The guys talk about relationships, jobs, opportunities, and situations they continued trying to force even when the signs were telling them to walk away.
Sometimes a closed door isn't rejection.
It might be protection.
The timing might be wrong.
You might not be ready.
There may be something better ahead.
Or the road you're trying desperately to stay on might lead somewhere you were never supposed to go.
The longer we keep kicking against a door God is trying to close, the more pain we can create for ourselves.
Walking Without Seeing the Destination
The second major Scripture discussion centers on Hebrews 11:8 and Abraham obeying God's call even though he didn't know where he was going.
That's the heart of Episode 42.
Faith doesn't require seeing the entire map.
Rob connects that directly to where he is in life.
He doesn't necessarily know exactly where the current road leads.
But for perhaps the first time, he's becoming comfortable with that.
Instead of needing every answer beforehand, the goal becomes trusting that God knows the destination even when we don't.
The Word Lights the Next Step
Psalm 119:105 becomes another important piece of the conversation:
God's Word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path.
A lamp doesn't necessarily illuminate the next 20 miles.
It gives you enough light to take the next step.
Then another.
Then another.
That's how the guys describe faith throughout this episode.
Maybe God isn't going to reveal the entire plan.
Maybe He's already shown you enough to move.
Amber Joins the Conversation
Episode 42 takes an unexpected turn when Amber from The Amber May Show jumps into the conversation.
Her story fits the Check In almost perfectly.
Amber talks about recognizing that a path she had been pursuing wasn't necessarily bad—but it also wasn't where she believed God wanted her focused.
She describes returning to broadcasting and watching one door after another open afterward.
Her point becomes one of the strongest ideas of the episode:
Sometimes God asks you to say no to something good because He's leading you toward something else.
But you still have to say yes.
Finding Your Calling
Amber's story leads into a bigger conversation about purpose.
Not everyone is called to stand on a stage.
Not everyone is supposed to host a podcast.
For one person, the calling might be broadcasting.
For someone else, teaching.
Business.
Parenting.
Service.
Ministry.
Or something that doesn't attract attention at all.
The important question isn't whether your calling looks impressive to other people.
It's whether you're willing to follow where God is leading you.
How Wolves & Wisemen Reignited Found Its Direction
The conversation eventually turns toward the show itself.
Rob explains how he had been involved with Wolves & Wisemen occasionally before becoming a regular host.
Then several things began happening around the same time.
His own faith was changing.
The guys were reconsidering the direction of the show.
Bible study entered the conversation.
Each host had experiences that seemed to point toward the same idea.
And eventually they realized they were all receiving essentially the same message:
Take the show in a more faith-centered direction.
That became Wolves & Wisemen Reignited.
What originally looked like separate events eventually started looking like pieces of the same path.
Church, Faith & Judgment
The conversation with Amber eventually expands into church culture.
Why do some people feel uncomfortable walking into a church?
Why can church sometimes feel more judgmental than welcoming?
Does worship have to look the same for everyone?
The group talks about traditional hymns, praise bands, Southern Baptist churches, online church, huge congregations, small gatherings, and very different styles of worship.
The bigger point is that people connect with God differently.
Someone who isn't comfortable walking into a packed church building may still be searching for God.
Sometimes a podcast, livestream, conversation, or online community can become the first place where someone feels comfortable asking those questions.
One Final Question
The Check In closes with Isaiah 30:21 and one final question for the audience:
What if the answer you've been praying for is already in front of you—but you've been waiting for God to make you comfortable enough to take the first step?
Maybe you're waiting for another sign.
Maybe you're waiting until you're less afraid.
Maybe you're waiting until you understand everything.
But eventually faith requires movement.
Rebel Report
After more than an hour of faith and life discussion, Episode 42 finally heads into Rebel Report.
The conversation covers a controversial criminal case involving a mother accused of killing her children and a heated debate over responsibility, medication, mental health, postpartum issues, and where accountability belongs.
The panel doesn't agree on every aspect.
Some place responsibility primarily on the person who committed the acts.
Others argue that medical providers, medications, family members, and failures to intervene also deserve scrutiny.
It's one of the heavier Rebel Report discussions in recent episodes.
Looking Into Space
Things get considerably lighter with a discussion about the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and what future observations could reveal about galaxies, exoplanets, dark energy, and the universe.
Naturally, this is Wolves & Wisemen.
So a straightforward conversation about astronomy quickly turns into:
How real are the space images we see?
How much processing goes into them?
What does NASA actually know?
And is looking at the universe another way of seeing the scale of God's creation?
Somehow even without Fringe Files...
We still almost found Fringe Files.
Folks on Fire
Folks on Fire gets personal this week as Rob recognizes his daughter.
At just 18, she's working, building her own life, bought herself a truck, and then picked up an older fifth-wheel trailer so she can continue getting into the mountains and doing what she enjoys.
Most importantly, Dad gets to recognize something every parent hopes for:
She's doing better than he was at her age.
That's a win.
Although the group remains slightly concerned about what she's using to tow the trailer.
Today in History
Episode 42 eventually heads back through history for another round of events, strange stories, memories, and the usual side conversations that somehow take longer than the history itself.
And because apparently historical events weren't enough...
The episode closes by traveling back exactly 30 years.
The Top Songs of 1996
The guys finish Episode 42 with the Billboard hits of September 1996.
That means a trip back to the era of:
The Macarena
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Mariah Carey
Tony Braxton
Donna Lewis
And songs that immediately transport anyone old enough to remember them back three decades
The biggest revelation?
The Macarena was somehow the #1 song.
1996 was a strange time.
No Fringe Files?
For anyone waiting for the conspiracy segment...
Sorry.
It never happened.
The Check In went long.
Amber unexpectedly joined the show.
The conversations kept rolling.
And before anyone realized it, Episode 42 was approaching two and a half hours.
Sometimes the rabbit hole has to wait another week.
Scripture From This Episode
Proverbs 3:5–6
Trust God instead of relying entirely on your own understanding, and allow Him to direct your path.
Psalm 119:105
God's Word provides the light needed to continue moving forward—even when we can't see the entire road.
Hebrews 11:8
Abraham obeyed God's call and went forward even though he didn't know where he was going.
Isaiah 30:21
Listen for God's direction and be willing to walk the path when He shows you the way.
Key Takeaways
God's path may not look like the path you planned. Asking for direction means being willing to accept an answer you weren't expecting.
Faith doesn't require knowing the destination. Sometimes God gives you enough light for the next step instead of showing you the entire journey.
Fear can keep us from walking through the right door. The opportunity that scares you may be the opportunity requiring the most faith.
Closed doors aren't always rejection. Sometimes they're protection, redirection, or simply a sign that the timing isn't right.
Stop forcing doors that God may be trying to close. Refusing to let go can create unnecessary pain and keep you from seeing another path.
Staying connected to Scripture and prayer can make God's direction easier to recognize. The more noise we allow into our lives, the harder it can become to hear anything else.
Your calling doesn't have to look impressive to anyone else. Different people are called to different roles, and significance isn't determined by audience size.
God can use unexpected people and circumstances to redirect your life. Sometimes what appears random only makes sense when you look backward.
You may already have the sign you've been asking for. At some point, faith requires taking the first step.
Watch & Listen
Maybe you don't know where you're going right now.
Maybe that's okay.
The bigger question might be:
Do you trust God enough to take the next step anyway?
